MCHCS Standards Checklist - Mathematics - Fourth Grade
K | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th | 7th | 8th
The content standards express what all students can and need to learn in mathematics to prepare them for the study of advanced mathematics, for science and technical careers and for post-secondary study in all content areas.
   
Number Sense Whole Numbers
  Read and write numbers from - 9,999,999 to +9,999,999.
Write numbers in expanded form to 9,999,999.
Identify, orally and in writing, the place value for each digit in a whole number expressed through millions.
Compare two whole numbers between - 9,999,999 to +9,999,999 using symbols (>, <, or =) and words ("greater than", "less than", or "equal to").
Round whole numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand.
 

 

Fractions
  Read and write mixed numbers.
Identify and write equivalent fractions.
Write fractions in lowest terms.
Change improper fractions to mixed numbers.
Compare fractions with denominators of 12 or less, using signs >, <, and =.
   
Decimals
  Read, write, and identify decimals expressed through hundredths.
Write decimals in expanded form.
Identify, orally and in writing, the place value of decimals to hundredths.
Compare the value of two decimals through hundredths using the symbols >, <, and =.
Round two place decimals to one decimal or the nearest whole number.
 
Relating Fractions and Decimals
  Read and write decimals as fractions (e.g., 0.5 = 5/10 = ½, 0.75 = 75/100 = ¾).
Relate a fraction to a decimal on a number line.
 
Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
  Multiply multi-digit numbers by a two-digit number.
Estimate and divide dividends up to four-digits by one-digit divisors.
Find the multiples of a given number and common multiples of two given numbers.
Know that such numbers as 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11 do not have any factors except 1 and themselves and that such numbers are called prime numbers.
Solve two-step word problems that include multiplication and division.
Add and subtract with fractions having like denominators.
Add and subtract with decimals through hundredths.
