  Home Independent Study at the high school level takes a tremendous commitment from the parents of the Home Independent Study student. The following criteria are characteristics that we have found to be important to success in the MCHCS Independent Study Program. Families need not meet all of these criteria; however, each should be given consideration and the implications that follow when a criteria is absent must be evaluated before making the
final decision to go ahead with the MCHCS Home Independent Study Program.

good organizational and record-keeping skills
self-discipline
ability to keep required appointments
parent at home during the day
good communication between the parent and student
previous home school experience
